Bruce Beaman models the 20-foot scarf he commissioned Frank Hess, 3249 Church St., (seated) to knit through the consignment program at the Holly Shoppe. Inspired by the costume of a character from "Doctor Who," the BBC science fiction series seen locally on [[broadwcast:Wisconsin Public Television|public television]], the scarf is 20 feet long and is composed of 22 different colored yarns. "There's an art to draping it on so that one isn't tripping over the ends," says Beaman. "It's absurd, of course, but that's why I like it." Hess figures it took him 69 hours to knit the scarf. "It was a great way to use up the odds and ends of yarn I had lying around," he said.
