Aubrey Richards was born in Swansea on June 6, 1920. Having served in the RAF during the Second World War, he started his acting career in The Brothers Karamazov, directed by Alec Guinness at the Lyric Theatre. He joined Laurence Olivier Productions, where he met stage manager Diana Boddington whom he married in 1950.<br />

Aubrey is probably best remembered for his connection with Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood. He played Sinbad Sailors in the original radio production. He then went on to perform again in Thomas' play for voices' twice on stage, twice on television, twice on radio and in the film version. This meant he had played every single male part except that of Willy Nilly.<br />

Most of his work from the late fifties was on television, and his credits include Dennis Potter's Where the Buffalo Roam, Z Cars, Softly Softly, Carrie's War, Flambards, [[broadwcast:The Tomb of the Cybermen|Doctor Who]], Doomwatch, How Green Was My Valley and I, Claudius.<br />

Other notable stage work included The Corn is Green with Annette Crosbie, and Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet at the Shaw Theatre. His film credits include Last Days of Dolwyn, The Iperess File, Endless Night and Savage Messiah. Able to speak Welsh, he worked on many broadcasts for BBC Wales.<br />
