MY FRIEND John texted me yesterday to say that Russell T Davies, the creator of the new Dr Who, had ripped-off a riff from one of my novels. Apparently, in the latest episode there are these creatures called the Adiposes made up from the shed fat of human dieters. They do sound remarkably like &quot;the Fats&quot;, the three obese characters made up from the weight lost and gained by Lily Bloom, the compulsively dieting protagonist of my 2001 novel How the Dead Live. John was outraged but while I confess I do feel a twinge of envy when I think of the 8.4 minion viewers Dr Who gets, I wish Davies's witty series well, inclining as I do to the Wildean view that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.<br />
