DR WHO fans staged a protest march yesterday — in support of the Daleks.

Devotees of the cult series were horrified to hear that the metal meanies have been exterminated from the Time Lord's new series.

Chris Balcombe, 44, of Southampton, owner of eight Daleks, led the protest through the city with seven other fans—all inside their casings.

Each brandished a protest banner declaring "Daleks will rule again" and "Why aren't we in the new series?".

Talks

The biggest banner warned that if Daleks were not allowed in the programme, they would "exterminate" the BBC.

Mr Balcombe said: "A doctor not facing the Daleks is almost unthinkable."

The Beeb explained the reason by saying that negotiations for use of the Daleks with the estate of Terry Nation — the creator of the Doctor's deadliest enemies — have broken down.

A spokesman said: "It's hard to imagine Dr Who without Daleks but it seems we have no choice. We fear they have been lost for ever."
