Q: Why is it that Doctor Who is so-called?<br />

A: Although the series is called Doctor Who, the leading character is only ever referred to as The Doctor in the programme. The name Doctor Who came about as the production team were trying to come up with an imaginative and catchy title for the series.<br />
<br />
As they were thinking of possible words to follow Doctor, one member of the team murmured "Doctor Who" as he thought out loud. The producers decided to stick with this name. It gives the character a more mysterious air which is fitting with the science-fiction storylines of the programme.<br />
