BBC2, 8.55pm

At 5.15pm on 23rd November 1963 a legend was born. A day after the assassination of President John F Kennedy. the first ever Dr Who episode, entitled [[broadwcast:An Unearthly Child|An Unearthly Child]], was broadcast and police phone boxes were never seen in the same way again.

Here, the Beeb pays tribute to the Time Lord with this evening of programmes hosted by Dr number four. Toni Baker. It includes tips on building a Tardis. a look at various foes faced by the hero and an insight into regeneration.

With the current craze for themed programmes booming. the surprise isn't really that there's a Dr Who night on, only that it took so long for it to materialise.

Caption: Tom Baker presents an introduction to the evening celebrating the show's 26-year history (B8C2, 11.55pm)
