INTERGALLACTIC warrior against the forces of evil, Dr Who, has finally met ignominious defeat in Reading — confounded by a hotel booking.

Fans of the long-running BBC television science fiction series arrived on Saturday to for a major convention to find they had been left out in the cold.

They were given a marquee outside, instead of the rooms they expected.

And Colin Baker, the sixth actor to play Dr Who, hit out at Reading's Post House Hotel for the mix-up.

He said, "I am disgusted at the way we have been treated. The organisers booked the rooms six months ago."

They were devastated when staff told them the rooms had been taken.

Torn

Co-organiser Maria James said: "They put up a marquee but when we arrived the tent had hem torn down by the gale-force winds."

The duty manager refused to comment.

Despite the disappointment, scores of Dr Who fans turned up at the Basingstoke Road Hotel, some dressed as Dr Who.
