COLUMBUS, Ga. — British actor Patrick Troughton, best known for his role as the time-travelling hero in the cult TV show Dr Who, has died of an apparent heart attack. He was 67.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Troughton was at the Hilton Hotel in Columbus, about 200 kilometres southwest of Atlanta, when he was stricken. He was in the city to attend a meeting of the Middle Georgia Society for Fantasy and Science Fiction.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Hotel Manager David Sanderson said he was called to Troughton's room and when he arrived, the actor was unconscious.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Troughton played Dr. Who in the BBC series in the 1960s.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was the second actor to play the part, succeeding Witham Hartnell and being replaced by Jon Pertwee.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The series has become a cult show among young viewers In the United States and is still shown in dozens of countries worldwide.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Troughton also had a long career in movies and the theatre.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
