DOCTOR Who star JODIE WHITTAKER hopes her casting as the first female Time Lord will pave the way for a woman 007.<br />

Ahead of her debut in the rote on BBC1 on October 7, Jodie, below, said: "If this isn't the start of something becoming more normal -to see women leading shows then it's really depressing.<br />
<br />
"I just think now is the time to show children -- both boys and girls-your role models and your heroes on the screen don't all look the same."<br />
<br />
And discussing the nine-month shoot in Wales, she said: "We've been in a bubble in Cardiff. You're just making it for yourself and you don't really know what's going on on the outside.<br />

"No one's approached me about being The Doctor.<br />
<br />
"You come to work and you work these long hours and you go home."<br />

Meanwhile, showrunner CHRIS CHIBNALL has defended the new look of the sonic screwdriver, after its design was revealed in artwork for the show and quickly drew comparisons to a sex toy.<br />

He said: "Every new Doctor gets their own sonic screwdriver.<br />
<br />
"It would be terrible for her not to have her own one.<br />
<br />
"They all look very different."<br />
