Veteran character actor Lawrence Davidson, who died on October 14, had a long career both on stage in the West End and in television cameo roles. Originally trained at RADA, he was fluent in French, and at the start of his career worked mainly in repertory, having completed several seasons at the Connaught, Worthing and also in Dundee.<br />
<br />
In the West End he worked for the powerful HM Tennant production company on several occasions, most notably when he appeared alongside Vivien Leigh in the play Duel of Angels in 1945. He also had a small role in Letter From Paris. In 1959 he was cast in Noel Coward's Look After Lulu which opened at the Royal Court and then transferred to Broadway.<br />

In the early sixties he joined Laurence Olivier's new company at the Chichester Festival Theatre, where he appeared in several productions. His television career took off at around the same time and he was seen in early episodes of The Saint. Later TV credits include [[broadwcast:Frontier in Space|Doctor Who]], Colditz and Bergerac.<br />

Among the many films he appeared in were the Curse of the Pink Panther, The Dogs of War and Strike It Rich. His last TV appearance was on the Harry Enfield Show.<br />
