A PLAN to promote a new "Dr Who" record came to an unexpected halt yesterday.

Someone nicked two of the three Dalek mechanical monsters being used by the record firm.

They disappeared from the doorstep of Deep Purple Records in Newman Street, London, during the lunch hour.

Tony Edwards, 40, a director of the firm, said later: "I can see the funny side of it now, but I nearly passed out at the time. "Someone probably thought they had been dumped, and took them home for their children."

The firm hired the three 5ft.-high Daleks from Terry Nation, creator of the "Dr. Who" television series, for a two-day promotion.

They were among the original Daleks created for the series.

Michael Lindsay, the record firm's 22-year-old label manager, said: "We had to leave them outside because they were too big to be brought into the foyer.

"We searched the streets nearby. but they had just vanished."
