DOCTOR DOOM--writer and scientist Dr Kit Pedler—who created the "Doomwatch " TV series and, inspired the Cybermen for "Dr Who" died suddenly yesterday aged 53.<br />
<br />
He was found outside his home in Kent by his girlfriend, Cherry Gilliam, and is believed to have had a heart attack. He leaves an ex-wife and four children.<br />
<br />
Dr Pedler was working on a new series for Thames called "Mind over Matter," dealing with the paranormal.<br />
<br />
He lived in perpetual fear of a nuclear Doomsday — not from Russian or U.S. weapon but from the "amateur" bomb which could easily be built by a competent scientist and set off in a suitcase in Washington or London.<br />
<br />
He was appalled too, at the way the world was set to destroy itself by squandering its energy destroyed the environment by pollution.<br />
<br />
He exploited his ideas in the "Doomwatch" series and projected his fears into novels.<br />
