DOCTOR DOOM--writer and scientist Dr Kit Pedler—who created the "Doomwatch " TV series and, inspired the Cybermen for "Dr Who" died suddenly yesterday aged 53.

He was found outside his home in Kent by his girlfriend, Cherry Gilliam, and is believed to have had a heart attack. He leaves an ex-wife and four children.

Dr Pedler was working on a new series for Thames called "Mind over Matter," dealing with the paranormal.

He lived in perpetual fear of a nuclear Doomsday — not from Russian or U.S. weapon but from the "amateur" bomb which could easily be built by a competent scientist and set off in a suitcase in Washington or London.

He was appalled too, at the way the world was set to destroy itself by squandering its energy destroyed the environment by pollution.

He exploited his ideas in the "Doomwatch" series and projected his fears into novels.
