But the new girl to appear in Dr Who which resumes production in England for the 16th year on March 15 will be Lalla Ward from The Duchess Of Duke Street. She'll play Dr Who's assistant.

Meanwhile another lady who is even more important to Tom Baker has arrived quietly in Sydney from London to join him for the rest of his stay in Australia.

Her name is Marianne Ford a set designer, but the BBC which produces Dr Who isn't too happy about that togetherness as it feels for some odd reason: that its star shouldn't dent his image with young viewers to having a real-life girl friend.

Tom also told me he is planning to cut his first record as a singer.

He's already made three LPs which are recorded dramatisations of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Journey To The Centre Of The Earth, and Dr Who And The Pescatons.

Proof that the man has a splendid sense of humour is his choice of songs which he would like to sing.

One is Loola, Loola, Loold, Loola, Bye-Bye made famous by the late Paul Robeson. And the flip side Yes. We Have No Bananas.
