MARY WHITEHOUSE won a battle with [[wikipedia:The Legend of Robin Hood|Robin Hood]] yesterday — and immediately launched a scathing attack on Dr. Who.

It came after the B.B.C. had admitted in a letter that a brutal Sherwood fight sequence was too drawn out.

Said the "clean-up TV" campaigner: "[[broadwcast:The Brain of Morbius|The latest Dr. Who series]] contained some of the sickest and most horrific material ever seen on childrens television.

"This is the stuff nightmares are made of. I dread to think what effect it has on - the five-year-olds and younger.

"The B.B.C. is indulging to an exercise of pure cynicism. The violence is designed to hold adult viewers who have been watching sport before tea-time. but children are watching at the same time."

Mrs. Whitehouse has written to Sir Michael Swann, chairman of the B.B.C. board of governors, demanding that the series be made less violent or be screened later in the evening.

After the Beeb's admission over Robin Hood — they agreed, with hindsight, that the scene was too violent-—Mrs. Whitehouse said : "I am very pleased."
